Our talks are by invited speakers and members and cover a wide range of periods and events including local history, social history and industrial heritage. We also have visits to local museums and places of historic interest.
At a recent meeting we welcomed Mike Brennan from Rochdale Local Studies Library who explained how the Cotton Famine affected the cotton workers in the Rochdale area. Due to the good management of the relief fund and the generosity of the woollen workers and other benefactors, the population got through the five year famine by turning to public works such as building Bury Road and Rooley Moor Road.
We meet on the third Thursday afternoon of the month at Whitworth Library. For our April meeting we are planning a tour round Rochdale Town Hall. If you would like to join us please contact the group leader, details above.
